Dr. Tallis Barker isn’t just an international expert on water fasting.
He’s also a registered and fully insured nutritional therapist (NT.Dip.), specializing in pre- and post-fasting nutrition..
From Fasting to Long-Term Nutrition
For many clients, completing a water fast is not the end of their health journey – it is the beginning of a new relationship with food and diet.
Once your fast and refeeding period* are complete, the question becomes: how do you continue from here?
I work with many fasting clients who want to take their health journey to the next level through personalized nutritional therapy. Rather than simply returning to their previous eating habits, they want to understand what dietary approach is most appropriate for their individual needs.
The reality is that many people with chronic health issues also need more than just a single fast to heal, which means that a therapeutic diet in between fasts becomes crucial in keeping up the forward momentum.
This is where nutritional therapy can provide the next stage of support
I also work with people who aren’t yet ready to take the plunge into water fasting, or who want to improve their nutritional foundations before a future fast.
Fasting → Refeeding → Personalized nutrition → Long-term support
*The refeeding period itself is already covered by full coaching for any water fast.
Why Personalized Nutritional Therapy?
No single diet is right for all people at all times. And what works well as a therapeutic diet may not necessarily be the right approach over the long term, as a permanent diet.
I’ve worked with numerous clients who have followed dietary protocols found on the internet – including diets recommended by AI and influencers – which were not appropriate for their particular health issues.
In contrast, my own approach is completely individualized
Rather than following any dietary dogma, I focus on harmonizing your body with your food and help you find a nutritional approach that supports your individual circumstances.
Clients who have already fasted know that the body’s responses towards food can change, providing valuable insights. After an extended fast, food often tastes different, dietary preferences can evolve, and you may find yourself naturally drawn towards a new relationship with eating.
Nutritional therapy can help you explore that new direction.
What Happens During Nutritional Therapy?
Before your initial consultation, you’ll complete a detailed health questionnaire and diet diary.
1. Initial online consultation
Your first nutrition consultation lasts 75-90 minutes.
We’ll take a deep dive into your lifetime health history as well as your current health issues, diet and nutritional needs. If you’ve previously worked with me through fasting, we’ll also consider your experience of fasting and refeeding.
Where appropriate, we’ll examine your situation not only from a modern nutritional perspective but also through traditional health systems such as Ayurveda and Chinese medicine.
In certain complicated cases, I may suggest functional testing relating to areas such as gut or hormone health, allergies or genetic predispositions to help resolve clinical uncertainties. (Given the additional expense involved, I never insist on testing.)
2. Your personalized plan
After the initial consultation, I’ll send you a written report containing specific dietary and supplementation recommendations.
Where possible, I prefer a natural, food-first approach rather than relying on a large number of supplements.
I often see clients arrive with such a long list of supplements that the supplementation protocol itself has become part of the problem rather than the solution. A more targeted approach allows your body to read the therapeutic ‘message’ of the given supplement more clearly.
3. Follow-up support
In your follow-up consultation, we’ll assess your progress and developments since the initial consultation.
Your nutritional recommendations can then be adjusted appropriately.
Because nutritional needs often change as your health journey develops, ongoing support can be particularly useful when you’re dealing with evolving and/or chronic health concerns.

FAQ’s
Do I need to have completed a water fast to work with you?
No. Many nutritional therapy clients do come to me after having worked together through fasting, but nutritional therapy is also available to people who aren’t yet ready to fast or who want to prepare nutritionally for a future fast.
What happens after my fast and refeeding period?
If you’ve worked with me through fasting, nutritional therapy can provide support for the next stage of your journey, helping you develop an individualized approach to diet and nutrition beyond the initial refeeding period.
Is nutritional therapy suitable for addressing chronic health concerns?
Yes. During the initial consultation, we’ll explore your current issues alongside your wider health history. Based on this, I’ll provide your personalized nutritional recommendations.
Do you recommend supplements?
Where possible, I prefer to focus on pure food and optimizing diet, rather than using a large number of supplements. In cases where supplementation can be helpful, I favour a more targeted approach.
Will I need functional testing?
Not necessarily. In certain complicated cases, functional testing may be suggested to help resolve clinical uncertainties, but I never insist on testing.
Are consultations available internationally?
Yes. Nutritional therapy consultations are offered online, allowing me to work with clients worldwide.
