Although I coach fasts undertaken for numerous reasons, I specialise in helping people heal from chronic illness such as:

Preliminary video call (WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype) before the beginning of the fast (@60 min.)

Daily check-in video calls for the full duration of the fast and refeeding process (15-20 min. every day except Wednesdays and Sundays; live chat texting on Wednesdays; day off on Sundays). Beyond our regularly scheduled calls, I am always available every day via video call to discuss urgent issues.

Additional unlimited email/texting for the full duration of the fast, to cover any issues which arise between our video calls.

Access to my personal phone number in case of emergency.

Before the fast:
Once you’ve filled out the sign-up form (by clicking one of the buttons on this page), I’ll contact you in order to set up a preliminary video call. Ideally, this should be at least a week before you plan to begin your fast. That way we can talk about how best to prepare for the fast, both physically and psychologically, as well as discuss any concerns you may have (also taking into consideration relevant medical issues, if any).

During the fast:
Once you actually begin your fast, we’ll stay in contact via daily video calls in which you can let me know how you’re doing, and I can offer suggestions to any problems you may be having: anything from detox symptoms to sleep problems to cravings for food. The simple fact is that most people do encounter difficulties while water fasting. A recent study by the National Institutes of Health (2018) showed that over 89% of people experienced some kind of adverse event during their fast, ranging from mild to severe.** Having an experienced water fasting coach can help you avoid or reduce the severity of such problems! Once things are going smoothly, I can also offer tips to help you go deeper into your fast, both emotionally and spiritually.

In addition to our daily video calls, you’re free to send me unlimited emails about any issue you’d like to share. In case of emergency (which is highly unlikely!), you’ll also have my personal telephone number.

After the fast:
For many people, the refeeding process after their fast is the trickiest period: both in terms of resisting the temptation to overeat, as well as in making sure you don’t overload your digestive system. We’ll stay in contact via video calls and email until both of us are confident that you’re back on course to your everyday diet.


A single consultation via video call is suitable for general advice about fasting or the planning of a specific fast and/or diet plan. Price includes an internet video call (60 min. via WhatsApp, Telegram or Skype), plus follow-up emails relating to the given issue.

A single consultation is also the place to start if you’d like full water fast coaching, but aren’t sure how long you want to fast. In this case, our video call will help you decide. Afterwards, you can convert to full coaching by simply paying the difference in fees for whichever length of fast you choose.

    I have a benign cyst on my vocal fold due to overuse. Is it possible to dissolve it with fasting? If so how long would it take to do it ?

    Hi tallis,
    I was recommended to you by a woman in a Facebook group for long COVID and autophagy. She says her symptoms vastly improved from a 21 day fast

    I really need help to get back to living fully. I’ve just filled out the form and hope to hear back from you soon to get started!

    My only major concern is my low weight, i am currently trying to gain weight for this but maybe that is a mistake?

    Hi Dr. Tallis, i am really miserable, seriously considering a long fast for long covid. I have been dealing with symptoms for more than 2 years since i caught the first strain. Severe fatigue, brain fog, pains, neuro-inflammation etc. I am 30 yo, i already did several 48h and 60h fasting and two 72h ones. While those helped, i am still far from recovered and being able to live normally. I wonder if you tried this fast with Covid long haulers and how it went. Thanks

  4. How many water fasting days to cure myopia and astigmatism?

      Hi cc,
      It’s going to depend on severity, age, strength of the immune system and general toxic load detracting from healing in the eye. Many people do experience improvement in vision already within the first week of fasting. The longer you fast, the greater the likelihood for permanent change. Unlike many other health issues, though, it’s very difficult to predict an outcome for myopia and astigmatism after fasting.

    Dear Dr. Barker. Thank you for sharing this very important information.

    My question is- can a water fast heal an old injury! I fell really hard onto my knees and then my hands May 2013. I heard all bones especially shoulders and back make cracking noises. Both knees still look swollen but thank God I have been able to function all these years.

    I am on my 7th day of my water fast.

      Hi Jackie,
      Fasting can definitely heal old injuries. The speed at which this takes place is determined mostly by tissue density and blood flow. So muscle injuries, for instance, will heal much quicker than injuries to the bone.

  6. I have completed a 28 day fast with Tallis.
    I have done a 21 day water fast on my own in the past but it has been much more difficult doing it alone.
    Tallis support and experience were extremely helpful.
    He is very knowledgeable about fasting and many issues about the body or mind.
    I would do it again in future
    He has a very understanding attitude and has used an individualistic approach to my personal situation.
    I was able to grow through this experience with him

    day 18 of my water fast..Doctor took a blood sample..everything normal except LDL cholesterol
    which he described as “awful” (measured190) maybe because of autophagy consuming fat?

      Hi Curtis,
      I’m afraid the vast, vast majority of doctors don’t know how to interpret blood results while fasting. It’s not their fault: they’ve never had experience in observing the changes which take place! High levels of LDL are just one example, and are often completely normal while water fasting. As the immune system works on cleaning your cardiovascular system, LDL plaques are removed from the arterial wall and thus enter the blood stream for cleansing. This is picked up on the blood test. Your LDL levels should return to normal (if not lower than before) after the fast.

  8. I never would have believed I could do a 20-day water-only fast and have it be a really great experience. I don’t think I could have done it without the coaching of the wise and compassionate Tallis Barker. He goes beyond the call of duty to be a supportive, helpful, and instructional.

    I began just wanting to do a few days, then a week, then 2, and almost made it to three. The health effects, not to mention weight loss, were amazing. So much so I am looking forward to the next time I do this healing protocol—with the great coach Dr. Tallis Barker, of course!

  9. I’ve worked with Tallis on 2 major water fasting events. One 40 day fast in April last year and one 20 day fast in January of this year.

    Fasting is a particularly private experience and having someone to video chat with daily and send questions along the way has been my secret ingredient for success. My friends marvel at my willpower but the truth is that the success has been a combination of my intention and support from Tallis. Through both those journeys, Tallis was my partner and coach – proactively helping me anticipate and navigate through challenging moments and celebrating victories with me.

    I have experienced tremendous healing both physically and emotionally through these fasts and watched myself grow spiritually.   10. After reading lots of information about waterfasting on the internet I finally made my decision. I really wanted to do a 21-day waterfast but I realized that I had no experience at all. For more than a week I did my research and I ended up at this website, http://www.waterfast.org. I had a very good feeling with the articles on this site, the personal fasting experiences of Tallis and his expertise so I asked him if he would like to be my coach. During my fast and also during the re-feeding process. Very good to hear that he was very excited as well so we started my 21-days journey. In fact in was not my journey, but our journey!

    Ofcourse I had my questions and a couple of times my concerns as well. Tallis gave me all the information I needed, even much more than that. I highly appreciate his involvement, good advices, knowledge and his professional but very personal approach. After 21 days I finished my fast succesfully, what a great experience! Both physically and mentally as well.

    I definitely recommend Tallis as a personal coach for anyone who wants to experience the special benefits of waterfasting.

  11. I am SO glad I worked with Tallis for my first 3-day fast. Coming from a history of binge-eating, I was terrified of bingeing partway through my fast. Tallis was such a wise, encouraging, and compassionate coach. With him, I felt safe in the lead-up to the fast, during the fast, and after the fast. He encouraged me to be “less than perfect” in my first 3-day fast, allowing myself to binge before and after and drink herbal teas during. It will definitely take a lot more experience before a 3-day fast is no big deal and I am able to healthily transition into and out of the fast, but the knowledge (in my body and experience, not just in my head) that I *can* choose not to act on binge urges, even just for 3 days, is invaluable.

    I highly recommend coaching with Tallis. Having a guide who has experience fasting and guiding others through fasts, and who is able to customize feedback to your specific situation and goals, is worth every penny and more. I will be working with Tallis again for sure.
